About the Books

The Gift of Everything is a heartwarming MUTTS picture book that explores the theme that “everything is a gift.” Mooch the cat searches for a perfect gift for his special friend Earl. But what is perfect? The book celebrates the beauty in the world — from animals and trees to friendship and quiet moments. Join Mooch as he sees the world around him with a fresh feeling of gratitude and discovers that life itself is full of gifts.

The Gift of Nothing (soon available in a special 20th anniversary edition!) is a NYT bestselling picture book about the importance of friendship and presence. It tells the story of Mooch the cat, who decides the most meaningful gift for his friend Earl is “nothing” — nothing, that is, except the gift of friendship and presence.

Hi Patrick, I have a photo with you taken at a shop in The Grove, Los Angeles, don’t remember the date, maybe it was
in the Nineties! Now I live in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. Please visit the Atlanta area. Lots of Barnes&Noble bookstores and animal rescue organizations. We can take another photo and compare our age-ings!

Forgot to mention that we’ve enjoyed the great company of three rescue poodles over the years, Miss Ginger, Miss Sweetie and now dear Mr. Petey!

I agree with Katy E. that we’d really like it if you could come to Connecticut sometime too. Mutts, especially Earl & Mooch, absolutely warm my heart! Thank you so much, Patrick! It’s one of the ways to start the day!

Yay!! You’ll be in Doylestown, PA!! I hope to see you Patrick there! I’ve been a fan for a long time. Mutts is just a wonderful inspiration to read every day. I also named my black cat Mooch, who I found as a stray.

Pasadena, CA is also home to Vromans Bookstore, a 127-year-old independent bookstore with a decades-long history of hosting signings, both on- and off-site, and so could potentially partner with PHS for an event. It’s also close to L.A. without being in L.A., so you can reach more of your fan base. Please come on out!

(And no, I don’t work there; I just like the store and your work!)

I love your Mutts strip Patrick! I had a stray long hair cat and his name was Mooch, I named him that beacause of your Mooch and also he was a Mooch. My Mooch was a very happy cat and lived to 16 years of age. , I love your Mooch and Earl and all their friends. keep up the great work.

Since you have three days between Encinitas and Santa Rosa, maybe you could squeeze in a date in the Pasadena area. It has a wonderful Humane Society with all kinds of critters. After the Eaton Fire, PHS searched for displaced pets and tried to reunite them with their owners. Not all were claimed. Too many people died or were displaced.

Laura Monteros

Please come to Santa Fe NM. We love your work and have rescued a chained up guard dog, who is not housebroken but so be it. He is very very old but the vet says except for being deaf he is in very good shape. Hope to see you out here.
