The MUTTS Team & Community
MUTTS began in 1994 when Patrick McDonnell brought Mooch, Earl, and their friends to the newspaper funny pages. In the more than three decades that have passed since then, MUTTS has captured the hearts of millions.
Today, Patrick continues to work at his drawing board (and sometimes out in nature, at his local park) to create his award-winning strip. And in the meantime, a small but mighty team works to spread the joy, spirit, and mission of MUTTS to more readers around the world. These are the folks who connect with fans on social media, maintain the website and the Official MUTTS Shop, and build partnerships with other organizations that help animals and our precious planet.
About Team MUTTS
We’re Team MUTTS, a small crew of animal lovers who work behind the scenes to bring the adventures of Mooch, Earl, and their comic pals to readers around the world. Together, we care for the online home of MUTTS! This means managing the website and social media accounts, creating official MUTTS merch, shipping orders to our wonderful customers, and collaborating with animal-friendly organizations to share meaningful stories and support causes we care about.
We’re based in New Jersey, but most of us work remotely from different locations. Some of us have been with the MUTTS family for many years (a few for decades, even!) and we’re proud to wear many creative hats, lending a hand or an idea wherever it’s needed.
We're a little team — with a lot of heart.
There are about a dozen of us in total. Our New Jersey headquarters is home to a cozy office and warehouse, where our shipping team carefully packs and sends your orders. The rest of us work from home (or sometimes, from our local coffee shops).

Our pets are an important part of the crew!
Most of us share our hearts and homes with rescued animals, and it’s not uncommon for them to make surprise appearances during our weekly Zoom calls. From feline supervisors to senior mutts curled up at our feet, these furry colleagues keep us company and remind us why we do what we do.

We strive to live our values ... at work and beyond.
Whether it’s planting pollinator-friendly gardens at home, learning how to compost, participating in TNR programs, or volunteering at our local animal shelters, we at Team MUTTS try to make a positive impact through our own daily habits. And as a company, we’re committed to finding ways to be even more sustainable and kind to the earth. We’re not perfect, but we care deeply, and we’re always trying to do better.
Our Community
We’re grateful every day to be part of a thoughtful, diverse, and deeply compassionate global community. And when we talk about the MUTTS community, we’re thinking of you: our readers, partners, and animal-loving friends around the world.
MUTTS Readers
Whether you’ve followed MUTTS since the early days of the funny pages or just recently discovered us on social media, we’re so glad you’re here. We’ve heard from teachers who clip comics for their classrooms, readers who turn to Mooch and Earl during hard times, and families who’ve passed down the strip across generations. We’ve received letters, photos, and stories from all over the world, and each message reminds us that MUTTS is more than a comic strip. It’s a daily connection.
Partnerships for Good
Over the years, Patrick and Team MUTTS have been honored to collaborate with organizations that share our love for animals and the planet. These groups inspire us with their compassion, creativity, and hard work.
Some of our longtime friends and partners include Humane World for Animals (formerly HSUS), Greater Good Charities, PETA, Project AnimalAid, the Jane Goodall Institute, Mercy for Animals, Sidewalk Angels, and Tripawds, among many others. We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with these groups to raise awareness about animal welfare, promote rescue and adoption efforts, support people and animals affected by climate disasters, and so much more. Together, we’re part of a wider movement — one that believes in compassion as a force for good.
