Patrick recently participated in a panel discussion at Virtual PAWmicon 2020, an event celebrating animals in art and pop culture. The panel was moderated by Bill Morrison (creative director of Matt Groening’s Bongo Comics Group). Patrick’s panel mates included Greg and Karen Evans (creator and co-author of Luann comic strips) and Bizarro cartoonist Wayno®.

The discussion covered a range of topics, including the early comic strips that inspired the panelists’ own artwork. Patrick shared that Peanuts and Krazy Kat were both significant influences that guided his career path.

There was also an audience Q&A segment in which panelists answered questions submitted directly by online viewers. This portion was hosted by Jessica Gercke, PR director of Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC).

Proceeds from this event benefited HWAC, which has for more than 40 years served as a private, non-profit organization in San Diego that encourages humans to help animals.

Thanks so much for sharing the pawmicom zoom meeting—love to hear cartoonists talk shop. I am already a daily Mutts email subscriber, and I hope a collection of all the Jane Goodall cartoons you’ve done over the years including the current 60th anniversary group WILL BE PUBLISHED! I have given copies of “Me . . . Jane” to all the children I know and to friends who are grandparents. It’s been my great joy to share. Thank you.
